Chibok Girls release: Jonathan praises Buhari

The former Chairman, Nigeria Bar Association, Minna chapter, Mr Taidi Jonathan, on Monday said the release of the 82 Chibok school girls demonstrated the commitment of President Muhammadu Buhari to the welfare of all Nigerians.
Taidi said in Minna that the gesture was also a clear demonstration of the Buhari administration to secure the release of all those in captivity.
He said, “It shows that the Federal Government and its partners have the capacity to release the remaining girls.
“The release would help to check the emotional trauma the parents of the girls might be facing in the last three years.”
Jonathan, therefore, called on Nigerians irrespective of religious and political differences to support the government in its efforts to provide security and set the nation on the path to prosperity.
The former NBA chairman urged Nigerians to seek God’s intervention on the challenges facing the nation, stressing that with fervent prayers, all the challenges facing the country would be holistically tackled.
Jonathan said Nigerians should imbibe the culture of offering intelligence information to security agencies to help in tackling criminality in the society.
Boko Haram in 2014 abducted more than 200 secondary school girls of Government Girls’ Secondary School, Chibok, Borno.
Twenty-one of the girls were released in October 2016, while Buhari directed security agencies to ensure all the affected girls were released and reunited with their families.

"Pirates are raping us" - Nollywood actress

The popular actress said it's sad that pirates have made the entertainment industry unattractive for intending and potential investors.

Popular Nollywood actress, Hilda Dokubo has berated pirates of creative works - mostly movies and music saying they are worst than serial rapists.

Speaking at the World Intellectual Day forum organised by the AVRS last week, the popular actress said it's sad that pirates have made the entertainment industry unattractive for intending and potential investors.
"It's sad that the pirates have left us in a state of comatose as practitioners. I say it loud and clear that if you pirate, duplicate to sell our works after several days and months of hardwork that we have put in just to reap from where you did not sow, you are a rapist and an armed robber.
"Every time you replicate our movies to sell to your own advantage thinking you are smart or no one sees you, you are serially raping us and make our business unattractive for intending and potential investors," Dokubo said.
In her conclusion, Hilda Dokubo urged pirates to help build the movie industry by getting officially involved as either investors or wholesalers or retailers.
She also urged top marketers and traders to checkmate the activities of pirates by bringing them to justice or informing the security operatives over their illegal and illicit trade.

Singer's encounter with a taxi driver in France shows that Nigerian music is exploding

Nigerian music and its influence is growing tremendously, and Asa’s experience is just a result of it.
For all our excitement about the growth of Nigerian music, we are still stuck to social media shout outs and more.
And sometimes, it all seems unreal and distant that our music, and the sounds that we produce within Nigeria is exported, shared and enjoyed organically by locals in other places.
The music as we create it, has great quality that can be enjoyed regardless of culture and tradition, and every day, new stories from ‘regular’ people show that the music is enjoying a healthy listenership outside traditional Nigerian and African fans.
Asa’s story is a great example of this. The singer lives in Paris, France, where she is signed to Naïve Records. And a story she shared during her performance at her ‘Asa Live In Lagos Encore’ concert is a great example of how much penetration and distribution our music has achieved.
According to Asa, she got into a taxi on a regular day which had an Chinese driver. In Paris, it is fairly normal for French speakers to confuse Nigeria with Niger Republic. And all the time they are corrected.
“So I get in the taxi and we begin to talk, and he asked me where I’m from. I told him and he said ‘Do you know Davido?’
“I told him yes.”
The driver began to talk about how he listens to the music and if Davido is from Niger. Asa cracked jokes about the DMW boss and how he is too rich to come from Niger. (She actually does have a point).
What this shows is that the music have travelled to a point where it is crossing boundaries finding new markets, and organically generating fans in France. France has historically shown Nigeria love. Earlier in April 2017, singer Yemi Alade kicked off “Mama Africa” tour in Paris, where she sold out the Le Trianon venue.
“Things have changed.” Asa said at her concert. “We’ve always been rich, we’ve always been grown.  But now doors are opening. People come and eat here. They need us. They need our sound.”
What Asa says is true. In the past two years, we have seen Nigeria become invaded by major labels seeking to sign up our artists and do business with the talents in the country. Sony Music Entertainment has Wizkid and Davido on their books. They are also distributing Ycee’s debut EP, “First Wave”. Universal Music is also in Nigeria, although their strategy is to sign unproven talents.
Nigerian music and its influence is growing tremendously, and Asa’s experience is just a result of it.

Dead man grabs brother’s hands in mortuary

The incident happened as the deceased, identified as Choji Zeng, was being dressed up by his brother, in preparation for burial.

There was panic today at the mortuary  of Plateau Specialist Hospital in Jos, when the hand of the corpse of a  man being  prepared for burial suddenly grabbed  his living brother’s hand.

The incident happened as the deceased, identified as Choji Zeng, was being dressed up by his brother, in preparation for burial.
Family members, who had participated in the washing of the corpse,  ran out in panic as they saw the dead Choji Zeng, holding tight to his younger brother Mr. Gyang Zeng.
The pandemonium attracted mortuary attendants, who came in to separate the two brothers.
The two brothers had lived together at Ungwan Juma’a Abattoir in  Jos  metropolis. Zeng, 35 years old,  died after a brief illness, relations said. He was said to have suffered from a liver disease.
Gyang Zeng confirmed the unusual incident to the News Agency of Nigeria. He said  after bathing his brother, he was dressing him with white cloth, when his corpse  grabbed his hands.
He said he had to  call the mortuary attendant for help. The mortuary attendant forced the dead hands off him.
Relations and neighbours  who witnessed the incident, also confirmed it to The News Agency of Nigeria.
Gyang also revealed to NAN that when the deceased held his hands,  he asked him; “Choji why did you hold my hand, you want me to join you or what”.
One of the mortuary attendants  said that it  was not the first time such a  thing will happen in the mortuary.
Mr. Benjamin Oche, a neighbour of the two brothers who also witnessed the incident told NAN that before the demise of the deceased, both brothers had a misunderstanding.
He said both of them had quarrelled over the land they inherited from their  parents.
But no foul play was being suspected in Choji Zeng’s death.
